View Kit Inventory

The Kit Inventory feature allows you to view laboratory kits assigned to each client, print labels, and remove individual kits from circulation by marking them as unusable. A kit typically consists of one or more containers and a set of labels. The kit itself has a unique identifier available as a barcoded label affixed to the box or bag. Kits can be a useful tool in streamlining clinical order entry since the kit is usually specific to a test and matrix. When using the kit workflow with clinical orders, the Kit drop-down includes all active kits associated with the client, information such as line item, test, and matrix default, and the unique kit identifier becomes the chain. Kit Inventory enables management of the active, available kits and helps you determine when to place a new order. To access this feature, the laboratory must grant Kit Inventory permission for your display template.

Note: Because LabOnline is customizable based on laboratory needs, some of the options referenced in the steps and images below may not be available or may be named differently. Direct any questions to your laboratory.

To view kit inventory, complete these steps:

  1. Select Orders from the LabOnline main menu, then choose Kit Inventory from the submenu.
  2. Choose a client from the Client drop-down list on the right side of the screen above the grid.
  3. To find kits with a specific status, such as those that are already associated with an order, use the quick filter buttons.

The quick filter viewing options are:

    • All - Displays all current inventory.
    • Available - Displays inventory shipped from the laboratory and not yet assigned an order.
    • Used - Displays kits that have been added to an order. This includes orders placed through Order Tests, Bulk Orders, and Patient Portal.
    • Unusable - Displays kits that have been marked as not usable, such as due to breakage, loss, or other mishandling.
  4. You can also narrow the results using the grid column filters.

See: Filter Data for information on further narrowing down your search results.

  5. The kits that meet the criteria you entered appear in the grid.
